    Frequently Asked Questions

    Got a question? Start here!

Do you have a distance education option?

Sorry, no. Physical presence is an important part of the training process; there’s just no substitute for it. If you’re not within reasonable driving distance of Englewood, Colorado, we can’t really help you.

We’d love to see similar efforts in other places, though, so contact us if you’re interested in starting something in your city. We’ll help you if we can.

    What does a student do?

You will get your hands dirty from day one. If you aren’t already active in ministry, your first step will be to find a front-line ministry gig and get involved in it, right up to your neck. Full-time or part-time, paid or volunteer, we don’t care, but you have to be deeply involved.

You’ll debrief with your mentors and reflect on how your experiences reveal your character and skills (or lack thereof, as the case may be). You’ll read what your mentors give you, do the exercises they assign you, pray for one another, and apply everything you learn to your ministry…and then debrief again.

You’ll make mistakes, plenty of them. You’ll debrief, try again, succeed, debrief, and try yet again. The reality is, most of the learning happens on the job and in the debrief, so that’s where we focus. Along the way, you’ll find that you’ve acquired the habit of growing into who and what God is calling you to be.

    What does a mentor do?

The mentors’ work starts with a certain number of focused hours of training and debriefing. Beyond that, we bring you into our lives and our ministries. We provide you with exposure to new experiences, readings, meditations, spiritual exercises, and more, all to build your character and hone your skills.

Understand, we have skin in the game here. We all have plenty to do already; we set aside time to train up more workers because we need the help! We aren’t cultivating followers; we’re building strong colleagues who will stand with us when it’s hard, strengthen us when we’re weak, heal us when we’re wounded–we’ve all been there, and no doubt we will be again. Our goal is to make you as capable and dependable as we can, sooner than later.

    What does it cost?

The basic formula is $## per mentoring hour, plus your books, materials, and so on. But how much that adds up to depends on what you want.

If you have one area of interest and your life only allows you to see a mentor twice a month, that’s one thing. If you are going to have one primary mentor you’re meeting weekly, and three sub-specialties that each require another mentor that you’re meeting once a month, well…that costs rather a bit more.
